Some of my friends asked why did I choose Sofitel. One of the reason was that I wanted to be home away from home. I didn’t want to be so near the city and I always loved the feeling of driving in to Sentosa where you have a glimpse of Universal Studios and it makes me feel like I’m somewhere overseas.
So this makes it easier to narrow down to the few hotels over at Sentosa. I’ve stayed at W, Equarius and Festive Hotel. I really wanted the Ocean Suite but I didn’t think I should spend that much money over one night’s stay (it’s around $1800). I researched and thought it will be nice to stay at somewhere I’ve stayed at before although W suites was very tempting. My sis-in-law had her 21st birthday at W suites and the place was gorgeous and it’s overlooking the waters where you can see people partying on a yacht. But to be honest, the previous time at W, my husband and I didn’t particularly liked their service.
Enquiries started with W. Replies were a little slow and I asked them about having a small party in their suites but they told me they cannot accommodate. Feeling frustrated, I decided on an alternative which is Sofitel Sentosa and started to email them as well.
While liaising with W, I told them about my sis-in-law’s birthday party and asked them to check with their manager. it took them a while to come back to me with an indemnity form which I wasn’t really happy with the terms. On the very day I emailed Sofitel, their replies came back to me a couple of hours later and they could accommodate a party at the Prestige Suite which was what I was looking at. After more email exchanges, I decided that I liked Sofitel’s service, and it is cheaper than W’s Marvelous suite by around $100+, I went ahead to book Sofitel.
I’M SO GLAD I CHOSE SOFITEL!
The place is tranquil, resort feel, and I totally didn’t feel like I’m in Singapore. The staffs are so warm in their service and almost everything was a breeze. I requested for early check-in but when I arrived at 2.20pm (standard check-in time is 3pm), the room wasn’t ready yet. It was close to 2.50pm then we got to check-in but everything else was good.
So anyway while waiting, we had some time to take some photos of the beautiful place and my mum was very much ecstatic and she seemed even happier than I was. Haha…
At the lobby. Open air but I’m glad it was a windy day.
Mum’s so chill.
I really love this pic of both of them.
Upon checking-in, I didn’t have much time to take photos of the place as I had to get busy to set up the suite for the birthday party so here are some pictures taken.
I booked the Prestige Suite by the way. Can you see in the mirror reflection, there’s the black writing desk? I used the desk for my dessert table and put up the backdrop over the glass.
Love this open concept mini-bar.
The room is divided into the sofa living area on the right when you first enter and the bedroom is on the left.
Amenities from Lanvin.
I love their choice of furniture.
After the party, we were a little tired but was hungry. We were contemplating to have our dinner in the hotel or to go somewhere else. Parking here is complimentary and it’s outdoors by the way but it on a first come first served basis. As my husband didn’t want to risk to give away his so-called good lot which was parked near the hotel lobby area, we walked around the hotel to check out the food. Il Lido is fine dining and we didn’t want to spend so much on food since we will be going to Cat Cora for our dinner the next day. We popped by Kwee Zeen but they serve only buffet for weekend dinner, which was a little too much for us. With little choices left, we asked the concierge and was told we can walk by foot to Sentosa Golf Club to eat or they can arrange a buggy. We wanted to explore a little so we went on foot, which was barely a five minutes walk.
So, you’re staying at Sofitel, you only have that few restaurants to eat at or you can take their shuttle bus to Vivocity or even head to Paragon if you like. We were lazy and didn’t want to travel, so we opted for Sentosa Golf club.
It was already 8 plus and the place actually looks very dark. Lucky my husband was walking together with me.
Upon reaching the golf club, it was a pleasant place and we made it in the nick of time as their orders were about to close. We settled our dinner at Golfer’s Terrace. I chose fish chips and my husband chose beef hor fun. Both were really delicious!
Hubs face as the food is here but he can’t eat it yet. Heh.
After dinner, back to the hotel.
My dress is from MDS Collections.
In our room, before the balloons drop to the ground, I asked my husband to take a few photos.
My mermaid theme party with the gorgeous seashells necklace.
The next morning, we had complimentary breakfast for 2 at Kwee Zeen,
The staff pouring us our orange juice.
They even have a children’s buffet corner for the kid. Don’t you want to bring your kids for a staycation? Even for tourists, this place is really amazing, albeit a little out of the way. But it depends on what kind of holiday you’re looking at.
Chef making my omelette for me. I asked him for a photo and this was his pose. Hehe…
You can sit in the restaurant or outdoors for the alfresco style. Most people chose outdoors and the weather was really pleasant.
You can even spot peacocks walking around.
As we walk back to the room, this view was right outside our corridor before we enter our room. My mum told me this makes a good photo spot on the day we checked in.
The first day when we checked-in, I didn’t have a chance to take a photo of how the front door area looks like. Here you go!
As you open the door, this golden man climbing up or down greets you.
So to the right was where my party was.
The first day where my parents were very happy with the peacock residing outside the room.
Came back to my pink Octopus whom we named Omo, looking snug and comfy. This pink octopus was featured in Legend of the Blue Sea.
I booked the suite for a night and the next two nights my husband booked the Luxury room. The reception ensured we can have a smooth transition and we didn’t even need to go to the lobby to check-out. The bell boy came to our room to pick up our luggages and we proceeded to our next room.
How the next room looks like. We stayed in room 334.
The place looks pretty much the same except that it is smaller without the living room area. My husband wanted me to take a photo of hos this mini bar looks like fully opened and closed.
My husband kept drinking their espresso. Must be so good but he’s also a coffeeholic.
And off to swim! The deepest depth of the pool is 2.5m so if you can’t swim all that well, do stay at the 1.4m area.
The pool area is spacious with plenty of day beds and deck chairs. I didn’t take the day bed because it is further from the pool. Feels like I’m in Phuket or some beach resort sans beach in Singapore.
Happy me. Can you see the line? I’m at the 1.4m area and across is the 2.5m.
We swam for abit and got hungry, so we decided to order some food by the pool. I love the menu. So cute!
Club sandwich’s here!
After our swim, as we walk back to our room, I took some photos at Le Bar, which was just beside the pool.
Love the colonial style.
Our room 334 is located at the Tranquility Wing, non-smoking room.
Right beside our room, there’s an open area where you can sit and chill if you like.
This place overlooks their Villa du Jardin.
Family of peacocks spotted again.
That’s our room 334.
That night we got lazy and didn’t feel like going out to eat, so we had room service. The fried rice is alot more tastier than the angel hair aglio olio. And we toasted with our unfinished moscato from my party.
The next morning, bonjour Mr Mark Lai!
Time for a swim again.
It started to pour but it didn’t dampen our spirits. By then we were a little hungry when it started to rain but since we were already wet and there was no lightning, we stayed on at the pool area until the rain came to a light drizzle. I wanted to order food but the guy was nowhere to be seen for at least 20 minutes, so we decided to go to Le Bar for a munch.
My hair has almost dried.
It was such a lovely afternoon and as the time passes so quickly, it was our second last day of our staycation and we will have to check out the next day.
Low and behold, the guy who was serving at the pool was now serving at Le Bar. I think he juggle both sides. Turns out he is actually an ex-colleague and he gave us their signature Grandma’s chocolate cake. I don’t normally take chocolate as my stomach chooses which type of chocolates will give me the runs but this was too good so I took a chance. It is really super delicious and nope, I didn’t have the runs at all. Haha… Worth every calorie.
As we finished our food, Mr Peacock came. I was trying to snap and it jumped onto my chair and grabbed the chicken bone!!!
Evidence. Hey you Mr Peacock! How dare you. 😛
That night, we went to Cat Cora for my birthday dinner so that will be another post. It was a great dinner nonetheless. Then, we came back to the room and a complimentary birthday cake was on the table. We were too full to eat so we had that for breakfast the next morning.
And we had late checkout at 2pm, so after checking out, I wanted to take a couple more pics before we say bye to the place. This is Il Lido restaurant.
We checked out on my birthday, on the 22nd. I had an amazing time at Sofitel Sentosa and I will definitely come back to stay and go for their high tea too! Their high tea comes in an Eiffel tower box set. So beautiful!
And a random pic to end this post. After checking out, we went to Club Street because I’ve been wanting to visit Bicky & Brew but they’re opened only on Monday- Friday till 5pm and there’s no chance for me to drop by. We had lunch somewhere nearby before popping over. A small little coffee place with pretty flamingoes and the place is owned by an Australian. Their coffee is super authentic and no sugar is added so if you would like your coffee to be sweeter, do request for some.
Overall, my review of Sofitel Sentosa is 4.8/5. While my husband finds that the suite is a little small, which is true to a certain extent, but comparing it to our bridal suite at Westin, the space didn’t differ that much. Service was top notched, although it will be great if they have more food choices. Le Bar only serves bar bites by the way so dinner was a little difficult to find if you do not feel like eating at pricier places. The fitness centre and spa was a buggy ride away, so for us we were a kinda lazy to have to go over to someplace not within walking distance to get our fitness done, therefore I do not have pics of the gym nor the spa. It is just a personal preference where I like the gym to be more accessible.
Getting to the place can be a little tricky but the hotel provides free shuttle bus services from Vivocity and Paragon. Alternatively, you can always get a taxi in. This is afterall at Sentosa, which is far from the city but you get the tranquility. Breakfast at Kwee Zeen was dope. Quite alot of food choices and you can enjoy the outdoors ambiance too. The place is relatively peaceful and for the few days I stay over at Sofitel, from my observations, their guests consists mainly of Caucasians and they are mostly like those retirees with some grand children, looking for quiet places to unwind. It’s been an absolutely enjoyable stay.
With this, I end my Sofitel Sentosa staycation. Till then, I will see you again.
