THE HUBS 33RD BIRTHDAY PART 2- REVIEW OF WHITE OLIVE CAFE & SPONSORED SNOOPY SWEETANERI CAKE

So, it’s part 2 to the hubs birthday. Lucky dude has got so many celebrations. I still have a part 3 upcoming. At the same time, while enjoying the celebration, let’s have a look at the place we held a mini birthday party at The White Olive Cafe at Changi Cove.

To start off, theme of the party was black and white and it was for a reason. Unlike the more superstitious kinda belief where one shouldn’t wear black and white to any forms of celebration, this in-laws I have are pretty much modernized and very ang moh pai.

I’m wearing an F1 inspired outfit (like real). No not really, it’s just something I managed to find from my wardrobe which I’ve not worn for quite some time.

Here comes my Uncle-in-law and his family in style.

The hubs had fish & chips which was really delicious. The fish was very tender and all the mains are in the $10+ range, which is very affordable and we get to dine in peace on a Sunday, without the hustle and bustle of the city crowd.

While waiting for the rest of the food to come, we sneaked in a selfie first.

Michie baby sis and I couldn’t decide to eat the burger or the pizza, so we ended up orderig one each and so we shared. Greatest decision ever because IT IS SO GOOD! The burger as below.

Some of us ate the same items so there doesn’t seem to be that many mains, but everyone agreed that they love the food, so I presume it was all done tastefully and quite an eye feast too.

We ordered 2 sides as well, one truffle fries and chicken wings. The truffle oil taste wasn’t all that strong which to us truffle lovers might not be a good thing, but to the hubs it was good coz he hates anything truffle. It was kinda a situation of fries overdose because my mains had fries already.

And another selfie after the food while waiting to cut the cake.

This year, I decided to do something special for the hubs because every year’s pretty much the same. Getting a cake, make a wish and eat the cake. I’ve always liked fondant cakes because you can practically make all sorts of things and I wanted something special for the hubby. So thankfully, I secured a sponsorship with Sweetaneri, who sponsored a Snoopy Fondant rainbow cake for me (actually for the hubs). I showed her a couple of pictures I found from the internet and told her to work around it, and I gave her the free will to design the cake, as long as there’s a Snoopy on it.

This year’s planning was really kinda last minute, from the restaurant to the birthday cake and to the actual birthday date, but it all went very well. Sometimes, some things just fall into place isn’t it? ๐Ÿ™‚

I secured the sponsorship on 16th Sep, and the birthday celebration was 20th Sep. On 18th Sep, I received the illustration for the cake. The cake is 8 inches, which feeds about 20 people, so that’s more than enough for the 9 pax party which we are having.

The very reason why the birthday theme was black and white was because of Snoopy coz he is black and white. Lol! Hubs went with me to collect the cake but he still didn’t know what it was. It was a pleasant surprise for him because he saw the cake and was gleaming. I requested for a Snoopy cake for him because it is his childhood’s favorite character. The cake literally stole the limelight really, because everyone whipped their phones out to take pictures and started Snapchatting.

A photo with all of them. I’m really truly blessed to have such wonderful in-laws, and it’s been nothing but bliss, having this additional family.

Whatever that you’re wishing for, my wish for you is that your wishes will be granted, and most importantly, to stay healthy.

Rainbow cakes always make good pictures don’t they? While I like that the cake wasn’t too sweet, my parents-in-law thought that it would have been nicer if it was a tad sweeter. I thought I’m the one with the sweet tooth. Lol…. I guess it’s to each his own. The cake was soft and fluffy and as much as I like sweet things, the fondant was practically sugar, therefore I skipped eating it. I’m giving the cake 8/10. The outlook is fantastic and the cake is soft and not too sweet. Now that I’m blogging about it, I kinda wanna eat a cake now.

Packaging of the cake was in 2 boxes made into a house. Thank you Sweetaneri, you’ve made everyone at the party very happy!

Overall, the experience at The White Olive was excellent. I really love the quietness of the place, away from the bustling, easy to find a space to have a good meal at very affordable prices in a hotel. Their service was really warm too and the F&B manager was also very nice to us. Initially, parking was not included, but somehow my father-in-law managed to get 3 for the 3 drivers there.

Talk about good service. I believe nice people deserves great service from service staffs, but sometimes, some people just really makes me wonder why should you deserve good service when you don’t even respect the serving party? Oh wells.

Do checkout Sweetaneri on her Instagram or contact her at 91086342, email anericakes@yahoo.com. She’s very nice and friendly and will accommodate to your requests. The Snoopy cake costs $150 if you were to order something similar. You can also let her know your budget so she knows what she can offer you. ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for reading!!

XOXO

The Hubs 33rd Birthday Part 1- Lawry’s The Prime Rib

A couple of weeks back was my husband’s birthday. Each year, I will have to crack my head to think of a nice and special place to bring him to. As his birthday always falls on the F1 weekend, we had to avoid the Marina Bay area as he drives and there are road closures. Initially I wanted somewhere at Resorts World Sentosa but it was a shame that the restaurantt was closed for a private event. That was 4 days before his birthday and I kinda panicked. In the end, I chose Lawry’s ass I think it is a pretty nice place and food reviews were pretty good.

This is my outfit. Thank you so much Off Duty The Brand for sponsoring me this very nice crocodile print silk blend playsuit which retails at Euro 495, which is approximately S$784. It’s a new piece that’s not even up ย on the website so I’m really lucky to get to wear this first!! Kat is the designer behind the brand and she’s based in Bali and she sources the materials from Europe. ย She’s actually Finnish and I’m glad I had the chance t o meet up with her when she came over to Singapore.

As Lawry’s is located at Mandarin Gallery, I brought hubby to Mandarin Orchard first and I told him we will be going to our favorite Chatterbox to eat and I think he believed me. ๐Ÿ˜› Then as we walked to Chatterbox, there’s an escalator down which leads to Lawry’s. So, yup, birthday dinner at Lawry’s! I’m actually very excited myself because I’ve not been to Lawry’s before and I’m dying to try their food.

Of course, the place doesn’t disappoint with its interior designing and their very polite and service oriented staffs.

His actual birthday is actually on a Monday, but because it can be quite boring not to be able to stay out late and thinking the next day having to go back to work, I decided to have the dinner on Saturday.

The chef cutting the prime ribs, which is what Lawry’s is famous for. However, both my hubby and I are steak lovers more than ribs lovers, therefore we ordered their steak instead.

Our window seat, overlooking Shibuya crossing. Opps, I meant Orchard Road crossing.

This is their signature salad.

We ordered their pan seared goose foie gras $35. Which is oh.so.good. I keep thinking about this after eating it. I want a foie gras now!!!!

I ordered the single cut ribeye 250g which is $78 while my hubby ordered the single cut fillet mignon 200g which is also $78. I don’t know why there’s no photo of his steakk, maybe I forgot to ask him to take. Lol… In addition, we also ordered 2 dinner sets which includes a glass of Chardonay and dessert at $22 each.

The presentation of the steak is kinda quirky but interesting.

We ordered one additional mash potato as well at $7.

This is their dessert pairing. Black forest cake. So yums!

The team at Lawry’s also gave a complimentary chocolate cake (which by the way tastes even better than the black forest cake) and sang him a birthday song. That night, there were at least 7 birthdays going on in the house.

They also printed out a photo they took of us. A couple of days later, I received an email with the soft copy. A nice touch Lawry’s!

Another table having a birthday celebration.

Enjoying the view and soaking in the ambiance of the place.

Kinda like this candid shot because sometimes my hubby likes to anyhow take my ugly pics but this turn out pretty well….

As we were leaving, we spotted the chef and we asked if it’s ok to take a photo of him. He gamely posed for us! Thank you!

Lawry’s and F1 craze.

Thank you for the enjoyable night Lawry’s and everything was really good. The steak was done well to our liking (we ordered medium-well) which in my opinion is very important because I hate to have my steak re-cooked and I don’t expect it from a fine dining restaurant, and there were no service hiccups and even I got a surprise when they just came out of nowhere to sing a birthday song for my husband, even though I did inform them that it is my hubby’s birthday, but more often than not, most places will wait for the ‘organizer’s’ cue before coming out to give the birthday cake. They made it a pleasant experience throughout and I am most happy to recommend this place to anyone seeking a good dinner.

After the dinner we were really full, so the single cut steak is sufficient for both of us apaprently even though initially when the food came we thought it was a little small. Haha… My total damage was $242 excluding taxes, so with taxes added in, it would have been $284.83 but thankfully, I hold a UOB Privilege Banking card which gives a 25% off total bill. Normal UOB cards get 20% off. If you’re there for a birthday, they give a 50% off for the 2nd main course ordered. If we had only ordered main course, it would have been more worth it to get the birthday discount but because we ordered additional items, so the 25% was a better option to go for.

In all, I paid $231.90 for the meal which is still quite ok for a once a year occasion. Stay tuned to the rest of the birthday celebration I had with the hubs!
